UNREAD: Detective Chat Mysteries ("UNREAD", "the app", "we") is an offline detective game for Android. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. The short version: we do not collect, store, sell or share any personal data. The game runs entirely on your device.
1. Information we collect
None. UNREAD has no accounts, no sign-in, no servers, no advertising, no analytics and no crash-reporting services. We do not receive your name, email address, contacts, location, device identifiers, photos, messages or any other personal information.
The "phone", "messages" and "contacts" you see in the game are fictional story content shipped inside the app. The game does not read the real messages, contacts, photos or files on your device.
2. Data stored on your device
To remember your progress, the app saves game data in its private storage on your device. This includes case progress, choices, collected clues, your evidence board, solve attempts, stars, ranks, achievements, your daily streak and your settings (for example text speed, sound and haptics). It also keeps a local record of which cases you own, so they work offline.
This data never leaves your device through the app. You can delete it at any time with Settings → Reset progress, by clearing the app's storage in Android settings, or by uninstalling the app.
Device backup: if Android backup is turned on for your device, Android may include the app's save data in your device backup. That backup is created and stored by Google under your Google account, under Google's privacy policy. We cannot access it.
3. In-app purchases (Google Play)
Case 01 is free. Additional cases, the Season Pass and the optional Supporter Pack are one-time purchases made through Google Play Billing. Purchases are handled entirely by Google Play:
- Payment details (such as card numbers) are entered into Google Play, not into our app. We never see them.
- The app asks Google Play which items you own so it can unlock them, including when you tap Restore purchases.
- We do not run a server and do not receive or store your purchase history ourselves. Google may share standard sales reports with developers (for example the order total and country) in line with Google's own policies; these reports do not contain your payment details.
Google's handling of purchase data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Play Terms of Service.
4. Voice notes (text-to-speech)
Some in-game characters send "voice notes". These are generated on your device by Android's built-in text-to-speech service, reading the game's own pre-written lines. The app does not record audio, does not use the microphone and does not send any text to us. The text-to-speech engine is the one selected in your device settings (usually Google's). We request on-device speech; whether a particular engine can use online voices depends on that engine and your settings, not on us. Only the game's fictional script is ever spoken.
5. Notifications (optional)
If you allow it, the app can show local reminders (for example, a character asking "are you still there?", or that a new Daily Cold File is ready). These are scheduled on your device using Android's WorkManager. No push-notification service is used and nothing is sent to a server. On Android 13 and newer the app asks for the notification permission first; you can decline, or turn notifications off later in the app's settings or in Android settings.
6. Permissions
UNREAD requests only what it needs:
- Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13+) — optional, for the local reminders described above. - Google Play Billing (
com.android.vending.BILLING) — to make and restore purchases through Google Play. - Standard permissions added by Android libraries for scheduling local reminders (for example, re-scheduling them after the device restarts).
The app does not request access to your contacts, SMS, call logs, location, camera, microphone, photos or files.
7. Advertising, analytics and third parties
UNREAD contains no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party SDKs other than Google Play Billing and standard Android/Jetpack libraries that run on your device. We do not sell or share data with anyone, because we do not have any.
8. Artificial intelligence
All story text, characters and clues are written in advance and shipped inside the app. The app does not use generative AI at runtime and does not send anything you type to any AI service.
9. Children
UNREAD is a murder-mystery game intended for teens and adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no personal data at all, there is no child data to access or delete. If you believe a child has provided us information by contacting us, email us and we will delete that correspondence.
10. Contacting us
If you email us (for example for support), we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply to you and delete it when it is no longer needed for support. We never add you to a mailing list without asking.
11. Your rights
Because we do not collect or hold personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on our side. Your in-game data lives only on your device and you control it (see section 2). If you have a privacy question or request under laws such as the GDPR, the UK GDPR, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 or US state privacy laws, contact us at tprasanth696@gmail.com and we will respond.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes (for example, if a future version adds an online feature), we will update this page and the effective date above before the change takes effect, and describe the change in the app's release notes.
